Last week I visited a lavender farm in Longmont, CO to see an array of these beautiful plants. The farm belongs to Dr. Cindy Jones who turns her herbs and flowers into organic cosmetics. Her Colorado Aromatic cosmetics are sold through her website and at farmer's markets around Colorado. She also sells fresh bunches of lavender at the markets when it is in season.
Cindy is trained as a chemist and believes strongly in the rejunvenating power of natural herbs. She makes a variety of products using a blend of lavender and other herbs and flowers. Her small batch laboratory, a building on her farm, smells heavenly! Everything is redolent of lavender and herbs. The garden is ringed by flower beds with a clutch of adorable chickens wandering around. Two goats maintain the grass meadow at the end of the first lavender field. Another field with baby plants lies just beyond, with a view of the Longs Peak when the weather is clear.
Colorado Aromatics products are available through Cindy's website.
I tend to think of these plants as edible but they reveal their healing properties in Cindy's products. Cindy hosts local business group meetings at her farm and hopes to add herb use classes in the future. I can't think of a more relaxing setting to soak up herbal lore and knowledge, can you?
