Making your own doll hats is a great way to add pizzaz to your doll collection. Adding an embellished felt daisy is a cute way to add signature charm to any doll hat.
The 3 hat styles shown in my photos are all from my downloadable doll hat pattern which you can find here.
You will need the following supplies:
A felt doll hat you wish to embellish
Felt scrap in a color that coordinates with your doll hat (my daisy measures 2 1/2" (6.35 cm) wide)
Embroidery thread in two colors, using 3 strands at a time for your French knots.
Daisy pattern, see below

Cut out the daisy pattern and place it on your felt scrap. Trace around it with a pencil and cut out the felt daisy. The pencil marked side is the back side.
Choose two colors of embroidery thread that contrast with the hat you plan to embellish. Separate your thread into 3 strand bundles. You will be embroidering with 3 strands at a time.
Thread your needle with one color of thread and knot it. Starting from the backside of the felt bring your needle up through the base of one of the daisy petals. Pinch the petal sides together and sew a tiny stitch to hold the pinch. Don't make your stitches too tight so that the daisy is pursed closed. You want your flower to lay mostly flat when done. Pinch the next petal together and stitch another small connection. Keep stitching around your daisy until you've created a little gather in all 5 petals.
Bring your embroidery thread up next to one of your previous pinch stitches and create a couple of French knots. This is to hide the gathering stitch. Make two or three knots next to each pinch stitch. Then add randomly spaced knots in the middle of your daisy. Make 10 - 20 knots with each thread color.

If you are making a hat from my doll hat pattern, the bucket hat looks especially pretty with two bands of ribbon under the daisy. See the blue hat in the photo above. Here's how to make this variation to my pattern:
Dart and add the the brim to your hat pieces.
Cut out two 6" lengths of ribbon and pin them to the front felt piece, one straight across and one at an angle, as shown above. Sew the ribbon to the felt and remove the pins. Pin the two hat pieces right sides together and sew from one side to the other around the dome. Turn right side out and pin the felt daisy to your hat at the junction of the two ribbon pieces.
For every hat: attach the daisy to the hat using thread that matches your flower's felt color.
If you would rather not sew the daisy to your hat permanently you could glue a pin backing on the back of the felt to make it removable.
Have fun adding felt daisies to your doll hats!
