Over the last few months we have been working with a landscaper to renovate part of our back garden from a weedy mess to a relaxing space. Late snowfalls over the past few years destroyed the evergreen border we planted 15 years ago against the fence. Drought and invasive insects compromised the rest of the plants resulting in an area choked with weeds. You couldn't even see the large boulders we installed years ago.
The previous bed occupied a wider space and had a wide variety of plants that was tricky to water properly. The narrower footprint of this bed and smaller variety of plants means easier maintenance for us. Our simplified planting plan includes a redbud tree and a maple hedge along the fence with clumps of sun loving flowering perennials in front. We already have a beautiful maple hedge on another side of our property so we know it does well here and is relatively easy to keep up.
We also took out a narrow flower border along the grass that never did well. The resulting river rock patio is much neater and gives us a lovely space for entertaining. Weed suppressant cloth under everything keeps the weeds in check without the need for spray weed killer.
We are so happy with our finished yard!
I'm also working on some new doll hat designs for fall. These dolls love to dress in tune with the seasons!
