Tassels are a big accessory trend right now. Here is an easy way to make your doll a tassel necklace using embroidery thread for the tassel. See below for my step by step directions on making the tassels which I found on the Sweet Lulu blog here.
For each tassel you will need a full skein of embroidery thread in any color you like, scissors and an embroidery needle with a big eye. I also used a needle threader. For the necklace you will need a couple of wood beads or pompoms in colors that coordinate. Wood beads and pompoms from Target.
Here's how to make a tassel:
- Cut a piece 4" piece and an 10" piece of embroidery thread from a skien. Fold the rest of the thread skien in half and tie in the middle with the 4" thread piece. Remove the paper sleeves from the thread.
- Wind the 10" piece of thread around the doubled thread bundle, about 1" from the top of the tassel. Tie ends in a knot.
- For the doll's necklace you won't need the tassel's tie ends. Using the embroidery needle, weave the ends of the top tie into the tassel through the middle of the bundle.
Trim the tassel thread ends evenly, brush the threads smooth with your fingers and you have a pretty finished tassel!
To assemble the necklace, cut a piece of embroidery thread the length you want to fit your doll and thread it onto your embroidery needle. Thread on one wood bead, your tassel and a small pompom and position them in the middle of the necklace length. Measure length on your doll and tie a knot in the thread to close necklace. Trim thread ends close to knot.
You now have a trendy tassel necklace for your doll!
