Artist Anne Butera of My Giant Strawberry blog has hosted a "handmade joy exchange" between artists around the world for several years. She asks artists who want to participate to create something handmade for their partner, while pairing up another artist to send their handmade gift to the originating artist. In this way each artist sends and receives a surprise gift in their mailbox. Its such a treat to find something unique and beautifully made in the post!
I send my gift of a handmade Sweet Friend doll (seen above) to Connecticut yarn artist Karen Stevens, who thanked me warmly for the toy. I'm happy she liked the doll and jacket, which were a labor of love that I enjoyed creating.
My exchange gift arrived in early March: artist Cindy Michaud sent me her beautiful oil painting of a winter tree at sunrise, wax fire starters, handmade cards and a stamped gift bag. Receiving something so lovely in the mail made for a very joyful week. Thank you Cindy!
Also a big thank you to Anne for organizing the exchange! Stop by her blog on April 21 to see a round up of all the artists who participated and handmade gifts that were exchanged.
