With this set I chose a stronger fabric for the basket, a pretty quilted fabric from Jo-Ann's. Its bright colors set up the colors for the kitties. I liked the pattern on both sides of the quilted piece so I rolled down the upper edge to show it off. Quilted cottons come in a variety of patterns and solids so you could make this set in any color you like.
These kitties are very huggable, perfect for small children. They are made from soft cotton scraps with felt eyes. Like my previous set, the kittens measure 6" high. Mabel is 9" high from ear tip to basket base, a little taller than her predecessor. Mabel's head is more upright so her face is visible when the kittens are in her pocket.
This is the perfect project for your sewing scrap pile. The kitties are simple to make - if you've sewn an apron with a pocket you can sew this project.
I'm thinking about offering a pocket kitty pattern and instructions for purchase and download. Anyone interested in that? If there's enough interest I'll work on testing and putting out a pattern for you this summer. Leave a comment or send me an email if you're interested and I'll make sure you know when its available.
By the way, there's still time to join my Fabulous Scrap Fabric Swap if you hurry - entry ends today (Friday, May 30) at 5:00 PST. Entry to the scrap fabric swap is now closed - thank you to all who signed up!
