I love a cute Easter basket and this one makes a great tabletop display. A simple basket is filled with six-packs of violas, ringed with excelsior and topped with a bow. Tuck a chocolate bunny and some candy eggs in the foliage for a crowd pleasing centerpiece. After the meal your guests can go on an Easter egg "hunt" and eat the candies.
Here's what you need for this project:
A sturdy basket, any color (a rectangular basket works best for this project)
2-3 six packs of violas, depending upon basket size
Ribbon to make bow
Excelsior, any color you like
Wrapped candy rabbit and small eggs
Tuck a plastic grocery sack into your basket, adding a layer of paper towels at the bottom and rolling the sides down so it isn't visible over the edge of the basket. This will allow you to water your plants until you are ready to set up your table.
Keep your violas in their plastic packs. Tuck the pots into the plastic sack in the basket. If necessary cut apart a few of the plants to fit into empty areas. Once you have filled the basket tuck a rim of excelsior around the edges of the plants to hide the packaging underneath.
For ease of watering, don't add the candy until you set your table for the holiday. When ready, add the wrapped candy bunny to the flowers and set the candy eggs on the excelsior (wrapped candy insures it stays clean).
Enjoy your bunny garden for as long as the candy lasts. As a bonus, you can plant the violas in your garden when the party is over!
