Some days I'm just not in the mood for winter. The white and beige landscape grows dreary week after week and I tire of looking for my gloves, hat and scarf before each journey outside.
Last week I said "no" to snow and cold despite the evidence just outside the door. I sought out warmth and color just like these butterflies at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, CO.
Strolling through their tropical conservatory was like taking a little vacation from winter. Talk about a feast for the senses: moist warm air, brilliant color, floral scents and gorgeous butterflies floating through the air!
Twisting walkways delight visitors and offer lots of photo ops. Children and parents watched with rapt expressions as orange lacewings flitted past. Blue Morphos played hide and seek among the gingers. Toddlers crouched beside the central pond to gaze at turtles resting on rocks. Overhead, twining vines and flowers harbored a moving bouquet of butterflies sipping nectar.
Outside the windows the snow glistened in the sun but standing in the warmth of the conservatory winter, thankfully, felt a long way off.

Lovely! I just looked up to see snow swirling in the air here. We were supposed to be getting rain today. Although we haven't had much of a real winter, I'm ready for a vacation from it, too. In Cleveland we have a butterfly exhibit at the Botanical Gardens and I've been wanting to visit. Thanks for the reminder!
