We had a busy weekend here celebrating my husband's birthday with a Halloween music jam - lots of good music, dancing and chocolate cake! I'm hoping tonight will be a quiet Halloween. We usually get just a few trick-or-treaters since we're on a tiny street with no small kids living on it. But I always have candy for those that show up :)
While waiting for the doorbell to ring I like to watch campy horror movies on DVD. I rarely watch really scary films - Hitchock's The Birds is about as scary as I get. Here's a list of my top 10 not-so-scary favorites, in no particular order.
Arachnophobia, a spider hitches a ride on a coffin from the Amazon to a sleepy town in the US, with dire results.
Coraline, (animated) a young girl must decide if the world she discovers behind a locked door in her apartment is better than the one she lives in now.
The Addams Family, funny movie take-off on the TV series
Death Becomes Her, rival Hollywood actresses seek youthful immortality and the lengths they go to get it.
Monster House, (animated) three teens discover the house across the street is a monster in disguise.
Elvira, a horror show hostess finds out she's inherited more than just a house from her strange aunt.
Beetlejuice, a newly dead couple wants to rid their home of the new inhabitants.
Penelope, girl cursed with pig snout takes her future into her own hands.
Pirates of the Carribean, eccentric pirates, cursed treasure, swashbuckling heros, romance and more.
Pushing Daisies, seasons 1, 2 (humorous/macabre, defunct TV show), about a pie-maker with an amazing gift: he can re-animate the dead. There are serious limitations of course, but he's able to solve mysteries with the help of his undead girlfriend and a cranky private detective.
